Task Time Tracking: Clock In / Clock Out & Geofence
The Clock In / Clock Out feature enables teams to track the exact time spent on tasks directly from the mobile app. Each time entry is recorded and synced to SnapInspect, providing full visibility of task history in both the mobile and web apps.
When paired with Geofence, time tracking can be limited to approved physical locations. This ensures users can only clock in while on-site. Geofence restrictions apply only when configured on both the property and the task category; otherwise, clocking in remains unrestricted.
Together, these tools improve accountability, minimize time tracking errors, and give property managers clearer oversight of maintenance and operational work.
Clock In / Clock Out is an additional feature. If you don’t see these options in your account, please reach out to our support team at support@snapinspect.com to discuss enabling this for your setup.
How to use (Mobile App)
Open a task
Tap Clock In to start tracking time
Tap Clock Out when finished
The timer runs in real time while clocked in.
Viewing time history
Sync status indicators
Blue cloud icon: Time entry successfully synced to SnapInspect
Red cloud icon: Sync failed (usually due to internet connection issues)
Time entries will automatically sync once the connection is restored.
Geofence Location (Optional)
What it does
Geofence restricts Clock In / Clock Out so it can only be used when the user is physically inside a defined geographic area.
If a user tries to clock in or out outside the geofence, the action will be blocked.
Geofence is an additional feature. If you don’t see these options in your account, please reach out to our support team at support@snapinspect.com to discuss enabling Geofence for your setup.
Important rules
Geofence is linked to both the Property and the Task Category
If either one is not configured, Clock In / Clock Out will still work anywhere
How to Set Up Geofence
Step 1: Add Geofence to a Property
Navigate to the Assets tab within the web app
Select the Green Action button and select 'View/Edit Asset'
Open the Map tab
Click the '+' (plus) icon in the bottom-right corner
Drag to draw the geofence area
Use the controls to resize or reposition if needed
Click the green ✔️ (check) to save
You can add multiple geofences to a property if required.
Step 2: Assign Geofence to Task Categories
Go to Company Settings → Settings → Task → Task Category
Open the category you want to restrict (e.g. Emergency Repairs)
Enable 'Geofence Clock In' for that category
Save your changes
Only tasks using these categories will be restricted by the geofence.
How Geofence Works in Practice
Whether a user can Clock In / Clock Out depends on three things:
Is a geofence set on the property?
Is the task category geofence-enabled?
Is the user physically inside the geofence?
✅ When Clock In / Clock Out Works
Clock In / Clock Out is allowed if any of the following are true:
No geofence is set on the property
A geofence exists, but the task category does not have geofence enabled
The user is physically inside the geofence area
In these cases, users can clock in and out normally.
❌ When Clock In / Clock Out is Blocked
Clock In / Clock Out is blocked only when all of the following are true:
A geofence is set on the property
The task category has geofence enabled
The user is outside the geofence area
When this happens, the user cannot clock in or out.
What the User Sees When Blocked
If clocking in is blocked, the user can:
Open the map
See the approved geofence location
Understand why Clock In / Clock Out is disabled
This helps confirm that they need to be physically at the property to record time.
Viewing Time from the Web App
Navigate to the Tasks tab within the Web App
Select the Green Action button → Edit Task
Select Clock In / Clock Out
Select the blue arrows to display more information
You will see:
Total time spent
Individual clock sessions
Full task time history
